The Moulding Foundation Funds New Support Vehicle to Reach More Families Affected by Childhood Cancers
The Joshua Tree Launches New Support Vehicle to Reach More Families Affected by Childhood Cancers
A new fully electric support vehicle has been unveiled by The Joshua Tree which has been funded by The Moulding Foundation. This initiative will allow the charity to reach families who are unable to access its support centres due to hospital stays, travel difficulties, or other barriers such as lack of funds to travel to the centres due to the additional costs during treatment.
The vehicle has been specially designed to provide a welcoming and comfortable space for families, featuring a TV and games console, a kitchen area, and communal seating. It will be used to offer counselling & therapeutic sessions, family check-ins, and a social space for children, as well as attending community events to raise awareness of The Joshua Tree.
Families often spend significant amounts on fast food, coffee shops, and ‘treat’ items while visiting the hospital, adding to their financial strain. The support vehicle will provide a safe, relaxing environment where families can enjoy a coffee and a piece of cake—offering a well-deserved break from the hospital setting while also helping them save money.
Care closer to home is a key focus locally, aiming to reduce disruption to work, school, and family life by bringing care and support directly to families. The Joshua Tree also recognises the challenges faced by siblings, who often feel left out or isolated during treatment. Through the vehicle, the team can extend 1:1 support sessions in schools, helping siblings build resilience and cope with their family’s cancer journey.
Speaking about the launch, Richard, CEO of The Joshua Tree, said:
"This marks a significant step forward in our mission to support families affected by childhood cancers. Thanks to The Moulding Foundation, we now have the ability to take our support services on the road, directly to those who need them most, further expanding our offer”
Danielle, Head of Family Support, described the vehicle as “a dream come true,” adding:
"We know how difficult it can be for families to access support when a child is undergoing treatment. This vehicle will allow us to bring our services directly to them—whether that’s a friendly chat in the hospital car park, a counselling session, or simply a place for children to relax."
The project aligns with The Moulding Foundation’s mission to improve access to healthcare and support services. Jodie Moulding, Co-founder of The Moulding Foundation, commented:
"The Joshua Tree provides exceptional support for families navigating childhood cancers, not just for the child but for parents, siblings, and extended family too. By funding this vehicle, we hope to break down barriers and ensure more families across the Northwest can access the charity’s vital services."
The vehicle’s use will evolve based on the needs of families, but its core purpose remains clear—to ensure every family affected by childhood cancers can access the support they need, no matter where they are.
